Anorectal Rehabilitation: Design and deliver pre-production devices for market feedback and clinical trials
Anorectal biofeedback therapy is an effective but physically demanding and demeaning treatment of faecal incontinence and chronic constipation, offered only through hospital and specialist health clinics. As such, access is restricted by limited locations, service and long waitlist.
By leveraging IoT technology, Dr Jerry Zhou and the team at Western University developed a user interface for biofeedback to measure and track specific therapy via an app on the patient’s smart phone.
Design Momentum were tasked with developing and integrating the necessary sensors, electronics and rechargeable battery technology into a small, fully integrated product, suitable for reliable, comfortable and discrete use at home, whilst monitoring a personalised treatment program that can be remotely evaluated by the health provider.
The device is currently in clinical trials and receiving extremely positive feedback from both patients and therapists on ease of use, comfort and intuitive training value.
Our role and responsibilities
“ It has been amazing to work with Craig and his team! They have met and exceeded our expectation on all fronts. We are going into clinical trials with the best version of our device and the initial feedback have been overwhelmingly positive.”
Dr Jerry Zhou, Lecturer at School of Medicine, Western Sydney University
